We had a great time at Kim and Andreas LBT/YLBT Halloween party. Met some new LBT/YLBT women and made new friends. There were a total of 19 attending, and there was plenty of great snacks and drinks and lots of great conversation! Add those together, and you get a fun night for sure! Good thing they have a huge living room because we filled it up! Lots of great costumes too! Pics posted for that event as well!

The tour we took through the tunnels below the Union Station/Brewerie was pretty neat. I had no Idea what an elaborate tunnel system runs under the city. This particular group of tunnels connected the rail station with the post office and other points in all directions. There were lots of large rooms and memoribilia from the past left still in these passageways and rooms. There were also several levels that tour went through, and it was cold and dark and cobwebby and at times we were walking through puddles. There was on old fallout shelter still holding boxes and cans of civil defense emergency rations. We heard ghost tales and were told of eerie occurances that still haunt the buildings....Clara's ghost being one such tale. There have been paranormal investigations by several paranormal groups and all found reason to believe that there was activity, and even have voices on tape from one investigation....It was a pretty neat tour and lasted well over an hour....so we certainly got out $7.00 worth for the price of our ticket. At any rate, it was a cool way to spenf Halloween Eve! Pictures posted!

I can't say enough about this film. The story was moving and the video very well done. "Out in the Silence" is a documentary film by Joe Wilson and Dean Hamer. It is a story about Love, hate and a quest for change in small town America. In this case, Oil City Pa. Out in the Silence is a story about how a same sex marriage announcement started a firestorm of controversy, and hurassment of two gay teens in area highschools and how change was made....What made it so great for me was that I actually knew people in the movie! Janice and I are even seen quickly in a crowd scene as we were attending the meeting about adding sexual orientation to Pennsylvania's hate crime law. We had a good turnout for this event too, and I am really glad that I was able to see this movie. There are still going to be showings in the area, the next one is in Oil City which should be really great to see the reaction there. We would like to head to that viewing as well. I will let you know the details soon!

We had a good crowd for the Robin Ochs - "I now pronounce you...equal" presentation Tuesday evening at Behrend College. Robin told the story of her and her partner being the first couple to marry in Massachusetts when same sex marriage became legal there. Her story was touching and entertaining and funny at times. The video of the wedding and celebration was very enjoyable. It was a good time! If you couldn't make it, we hope to see you at an event soon. - later- laurie

Wednesday, November 18th - the screening of "For The Bible Tells Me So", sponsored by NW PA NOW. It will be at the Frank G Pogue Student Center on the Edinboro campus at 7-9 PM with a panel discussion afterwards. The news release info follows: NWPA NOW Announces Showing of For The Bible Tells Me SO
The Northwestern Pennsylvania Chapter of the National Organization for Women will present the film For The Bible Tells Me So on Wednesday, November 18 at 7:00 PM in the Multipurpose room of the Frank G. Pogue Student Center on the Edinboro University of Pennsylvania campus.
This award winning documentary focuses on five Christian families and how each handles the knowledge that one of their members is gay or lesbian. Their stories are juxtaposed with reflections from major biblical scholars as the film explores the intersection of religion and homosexuality in America today.
Following the screening there will be a discussion with audience members and a panel that includes Dr. Jerra Jenrette, chair of EUP’s History and Anthropology Department, The Reverend Randolph Edwards, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Edinboro; and Dr. Richard McCarty, Associate Professor of Religious Studies at Mercyhurst College.
Refreshments will be served.
This event is being co-sponsored by The NWPA Chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, and Iota Iota Iota, the Women’s Studies Honor Society at EUP. Lastly, Sunday, December 6th, 4:30 PM at the Colony Pub and Grill - The LBT Women's Holiday Dinner. Bring a $10.00 exchange gift, and a "white elephant" gift for exchange. Reservations must be called in to Robin at 455-3127 by Friday, November 13th. That's it for now. I'll send out reminders as the events are coming up! Enjoy the beautiful Fall! Later, Laurie

We finished off August in fine style. Some of us attended the "Kiss-In" on the Erie Courthouse steps during Celebrate Erie. We also took in "Three Dog Night's" performance that same evening. The next Friday, we attended the Polish Festival for some great food. We also went to the TREC Center the next week to check out the movies, "Jane Goodall's Amazing Chimpanzees" and "Hurricane on the Bayou". Both films were superb and we really enjoyed them. September was also a fun month for the LBT Women of Erie. We saw the play "Primal Fear" with our own member Kelly, at the "All an Act" theater in Erie. It was an excellent show, and of course, Kelly was spectacular! We followed that with an fantastic picnic at Kim and Andrea's home on the 6th. There were, 16 of us I think, including 5 new friends and Mike Mahler too. We started at 2 pm, and stayed till 1 am. No one wanted to go home! We finished off the night with a campfire and smores, and some more drinks too! Check out the pics on the Facebook and Wet Paint sites. We attended the Heritage Festival at Liberty Park on the bay and took in "One World Tribe's performance and later some went back for the Philharmonic performance and the fireworks. The Sept. 13th LBT meeting was hosted by Erin Moll! A big thank you from Janice and I. We had purchased tickets through a service auction at the UUCE Church to attend a real farm breakfast at Hurry Hill Farms. We had a great breakfast and it was good to know that Erin was taking over the meeting so the "show could go on!" Thanks again Erin!

Janice and I met Robing and Barb at the TREC center for two Movies, Jane Goodall's Amazing Chimpanzees at 3 PM and Hurricane on the Bayou at 5 PM. ( about music in New Orleans before and after Katrina) Both movies were excellent. Between movies we took a walk up the tower, browsed in the gift shop and watched the free movie on the small screen there about the forming of Presque Isle. It was really an enjoyable afternoon.

We had nine women show up Friday night at the Stull Center on Presque Isle for the free program given by the park rangers. It was Indian Lore and Tales of the Night Sky. Afterwards we were to have a fire on the beach, but it was really threatning to storm. They were going to skip the fire afterwards, but everyone was so disapointed that they had a fire out behind the Center in their firepit. Thy suprised everyone by having smores to make and it was nice. Afterwards we went to the Eat N Park for a late night snack. We had a good time there talking and getting to know the two newest members of our gang, Airiday and Darla. It's really nice to be making all these wonderful new friends. I love it!

We enjoyed an inprompteau event this week...A few of us got together Thursday evening at Park Tavern for dinner and a Belly Dancing show. Both were excellent. Friday, Jan and I went to the Polish Festival for some good polish food. We were expecting to meet Barb, but apparantly we were walking in circles and missing each other....Barb doesnt have a cell phone. We decided to secure a table and get dinner. While I was waiting for Jan to return from the food line, Airaday and Darla showed up! Awesome, we have talked but never met until then! We all sat and ate dinner and talked, and it was really good to meet some folks from our page here. I enjoyed talking to them!. Also a reminder...the next event is the Erie Gay News Folding Party. It is Tuesady the 25th at 7 PM at Mike Kohler's home, 714 Cherry street. Hope you can make it. WE always have a fun time while doing something worthwhile with our time! It feels good to help! Come and join us if you can!- Later- Laurie
