Eleven of us attended the Sleigh Ride Saturday evening at Burch Farms. I was home sick and pouting because I couldn't go, but Jan did bring me home some of my favorite baked goods as a sort of booby prize. There was wine tasting, or hot chocolate after the ride and a visit from Santa as well. Something different and festive to get us in the Holiday Spirit! Hope to see you Tuesday at Mike Kohlers at 614 Cherry St in Erie at 7:00 to help fold the Erie Gay News!

Well, we are back from Pittsburgh after attending the Lea DeLaria and Maggie Cassella "You Better Watch Out" Christmas show at the Pittsburgh Eagle. Five of us made the trek, and it was well worth it! The room was packed with wonderful women and a few guys for good measure. Maggie and Lea are great entertainers and it was a fast moving and hilarious show! My favorite Comedy routines were "The Three Wise Kings" which included Lea, Maggie and a Tori Spelling blow up doll ( don't ask, you had to be there) and Dykes on Bikes for Toys for Tikes" which was a take-off on Toy's for Tots. I also loved the "Be a Santa" routine! In addition to the comedy routines, Lea also sang songs from different Broadway shows that she has been in and Maggie did her famous "Because I Said So Rant!" which is based on current news events as seen through her eyes as only Maggie can tell the story! Afterwards, Lea signed some CD's for us and we had a photo op with each of them. It was a great night. Oh and Stacie and I each got a great kiss from Lea during the show! Wahoo!

Also, we have extended the deadline to order "Hanging with the Beans" "LBT Women of Erie" logo apparel till Saturday the 12th. We are only 2 pieces of clothing away from the 2nd quantity discount. Please, if you have ordered something or are going to order it, be prepared to put a deposit on your order. The balance can be paid when you pick up the items. Items placed on order by the 12th will in most cases be ready for pick-up by Christmas. Silkscreen Unlimited is on the corner of W. 8th and Lincoln in Erie, and is open M - F till 5:30 and Saturday till noon. Ask for Jeff if you can, he is the most knowledgeable about our group order. After all the orders are placed, Jeff can give you an exact price for your items. If you are ordering items as a couple, as Janice and I did, please let Jeff know so he can group your items together when figuring pricing. I asked today, and payment of deposit or in full can be made over the phone for those of you who have already placed your orders. The logo will be placed on the upper left chest area of your item unless otherwise instructed. For instance, I have a hoodie that I want the item on the upper left front, and again, larger across the back.

The tour we took through the tunnels below the Union Station/Brewerie was pretty neat. I had no Idea what an elaborate tunnel system runs under the city. This particular group of tunnels connected the rail station with the post office and other points in all directions. There were lots of large rooms and memoribilia from the past left still in these passageways and rooms. There were also several levels that tour went through, and it was cold and dark and cobwebby and at times we were walking through puddles. There was on old fallout shelter still holding boxes and cans of civil defense emergency rations. We heard ghost tales and were told of eerie occurances that still haunt the buildings....Clara's ghost being one such tale. There have been paranormal investigations by several paranormal groups and all found reason to believe that there was activity, and even have voices on tape from one investigation....It was a pretty neat tour and lasted well over an hour....so we certainly got out $7.00 worth for the price of our ticket. At any rate, it was a cool way to spenf Halloween Eve! Pictures posted!

I can't say enough about this film. The story was moving and the video very well done. "Out in the Silence" is a documentary film by Joe Wilson and Dean Hamer. It is a story about Love, hate and a quest for change in small town America. In this case, Oil City Pa. Out in the Silence is a story about how a same sex marriage announcement started a firestorm of controversy, and hurassment of two gay teens in area highschools and how change was made....What made it so great for me was that I actually knew people in the movie! Janice and I are even seen quickly in a crowd scene as we were attending the meeting about adding sexual orientation to Pennsylvania's hate crime law.
We had a good turnout for this event too, and I am really glad that I was able to see this movie. There are still going to be showings in the area, the next one is in Oil City which should be really great to see the reaction there. We would like to head to that viewing as well. I will let you know the details soon!

We had a good crowd for the Robin Ochs - "I now pronounce you...equal" presentation Tuesday evening at Behrend College. Robin told the story of her and her partner being the first couple to marry in Massachusetts when same sex marriage became legal there. Her story was touching and entertaining and funny at times. The video of the wedding and celebration was very enjoyable. It was a good time! If you couldn't make it, we hope to see you at an event soon. - later- laurie
